Narcotic Detection Canine Requalification Standards

2/11/2019 9:20:00 AM

The new K9 requalification procedure that went into effect January 1, 2019 is well under way. All portions of the process, from initial registration through the requalification procedure have shown to be successful. Of the 400+ K9 teams in the state, we have 275 of them registered thus far. We still have agencies that need to submit their information to LETAC, MTU 10, in order to complete the registration process. The number one issue with teams trying to register and being unsuccessful is that they are not yet entered into the system. Once the initial entering is complete, handlers can schedule their team for any date that is available. All requalification dates and locations for the remainder of the year are posted.

Please send an email to director@letac.org with the following information to register your K9 team:

Dog name:
Handlers name:
Handler PTBID:
Email address:
Date that K9 is due to requalify:

As a reminder, all ILETSB requalification’s and initial certifications are conducted at no cost to the agency or canine team.

We previously discussed phase 2 of the canine project which involves initial training. There is much more to follow on this in the upcoming months. As a reminder, effective January 1, 2019, all newly trained canine teams are required to contact LETAC at (217) 726-7014 to schedule their initial certification test. Click here for a list of approved canine entities.
