The goal of this course is to train participants to more fully understand the medical and psychological/emotional needs concerning the pregnant inmate.  The skills addressed will include, but not be limited to, will be the following:

  • Understand the differences between pregnant and non-pregnant inmates
  • Understanding specials needs of pregnant inmates in jails and prisons
  • Understand the Illinois law regarding treatment of pregnant inmates
  • Understand constitutional rights held by pregnant inmates
  • Understand the role that the doula provided for pregnant inmates
  • Understand the changes in the policy regarding of restraints
  • Understand the balance between empathy and boundaries
  • Understand IDOC “Moms and Babies” program
  • Understanding emotional and psychological needs if pregnant inmates
